LegalPrivacy Policy
How Solar Republic Limited collects, uses, stores and discloses your personal information, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Solar Republic Limited ("Solar Republic", "we", "us") operates solarrepublic.co.nz and provides solar design, supply and installation services in New Zealand. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Information Privacy Principles.
1. Information we collect
We collect personal information you give us directly, including when you request a quote, book an assessment, contact us, or buy a system. This typically includes:
- Your name, email address and phone number.
- The address of the property where a system might be installed.
- Information about your electricity use, such as your average monthly power bill or a copy of an invoice.
- Roof, site and building details relevant to designing and installing a system.
- Billing and payment details where you purchase from us.
- Any other information you choose to include in a message to us.
We also collect limited technical information automatically when you use our website, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and how you arrived at the site. This is used to keep the site working and to understand how it is used.
2. How we use your information
- To respond to your enquiry and prepare a quote or proposal.
- To design, supply, install and service a solar system.
- To arrange grid connection with your electricity distributor and retailer where required.
- To administer payments, warranties and after-sales support.
- To meet our legal, tax and health and safety obligations.
- To improve our website and services.
- To send you information about our services where you have asked us to, or where you would reasonably expect it. You can opt out at any time.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where it is necessary to deliver what you have asked for, or where the law requires it. That can include:
- Electricity distributors and retailers, to obtain approval to connect your system to the network.
- Licensed electricians, installers and other contractors engaged on your project.
- Suppliers and manufacturers, where a warranty claim requires it.
- Service providers who host our website, send our email, process payments or provide accounting support. Some of these providers may store data outside New Zealand, and where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable protection.
- Government agencies, regulators or courts where we are legally required to disclose.
4. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site functioning, remember your preferences and measure traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site may not work as intended if you do. Where we use analytics or advertising measurement tools, they collect aggregate usage information rather than the content of your enquiries.
5. Storage and security
We store personal information on systems protected by access controls and, where appropriate, encryption. We keep information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or for as long as the law requires. Records relating to an installed system, including warranty and compliance documents, are generally kept for the life of the warranty.
6. Access and correction
You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to request a copy of it, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Contact us using the details below and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can, and in any case within 20 working days. There is no charge for a standard request. If we cannot give you what you have asked for, we will explain why.
7. Complaints
If you are not happy with how we have handled your personal information, contact us first so we can try to put it right. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz or on 0800 803 909.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The current version will always be available on this page.
